Friday Five: Fashion Illustration Update

Five things, Nashville and beyond, that I'm currently trending..

In preparation for an upcoming course, I've been doing some research on various fashion illustrators. I've come across some talented artists, designers, and illustrators, I thought I'd share.

An apparel designer at Reebok, this talented artist practices fashion illustration as a much-loved hobby. Her creations are unique, trendy, and in high-demand. The illustrator has been commissioned by giants like Target and Coach. You can find out more about Kathryn and see her creations via her blog, PaperFashion.

Nashville-based designer Amy Breen of amy b. clothing is not only a talented clothing designer, but also an incredible artist. Her loosely drawn sketches are fashion-forward and inspiring. Her illustrations represent a culmination of my favorite drawing techniques- fast lines, imperfection, and pen with watercolor. Amy has lent her talents to my Fashion Drawing class, serving as a guest lecturer, been commissioned by myself for customized art, and her illustrations have been displayed at the local restaurant Jacksons.
Sketches for her upcoming collection.

My favorite amy b. sketch. I'm obsessed with the monochromatic hues and splattered paint.

Born in Heinkenszand, the Netherlands in 1981, this artist began freelancing after graduation. Her favorite mediums are pen and pencil, colored pencil, and graphite. While her favorite muses are friends and family, she does get inspired by models and fashion designers as well. Denise's impressive client list includes Elle, and she has been published in eight fashion illustration books.

Dutch artist Judith van den Hoek's illustrations are minimalistic, yet alluring. Simple and timeless. I appreciate the little use of color, and strong facial constructions.

Utilizing a mixed medium of pencil and texture, fashion illustrator Niki Pilkington studied fashion promotion and fashion illustration at Ravensbourne Academy of Design & Communication. The talented artist has had several solo exhibitions and boasts an impressive client list including the likes of Topshop, Nylon Mag, Elle, Laurence King Publishing, and Paul McCartney.
