Franklin Main Street Festival: April 30 - May 1, 2011
Seriously, I love a good festival. I used to go to them ALL the time when I lived in Lexington, KY; there's just something charmingly small town about it. And Franklin, TN has that Main Street charm that will ensure a fun Saturday and Sunday event.
The event will take place this weekend, Saturday April 30, 2011 and Sunday May 1, 2011 from 10:00 - 10:00 and 12:00 - 6:00 respectively. As indicated on the flyer (and the tons of emails I've gotten from Franklin), there will be over 200 art and craft booths, live entertainment, international food, and retail deals! Many of the local boutiques will be opening their doors for customers and offering special discounts on apparel and accessories. I mean, come on. How fun does this look??

Marchesa Fashion Show Review
I really don't know what to say about last night's Marchesa fashion show at the Nashville Symphony Center, except that I was TOTALLY blown away. The venue, of course, was beautiful and the dresses were breathtaking and inspiring.
I arrived at the Symphony Center and mingled with a few guests while sipping a glass of red wine. And seriously, that place was packed! I'm talking wall to wall with fantastically dressed guests. And with a record-breaking 800+ individuals in attendance, you can imagine how crazy that place was.
I grabbed a center seat on the balcony level and took over 100 photos. Despite this, I wasn't really pleased with any of the shots I took. So, in an unusual Amber C. fashion, I'm going to refer you to photographer Steve Harman's Flickr account of the Marchesa fashion show here. And I'm sure within the upcoming days hundreds of photos will be flying around. But in the meantime, here are some of the key looks:
I had also forgotten that in February of this year I posted an article offering my readers a sneak peek of the Marchesa Fall / Winter 2011 collection. View the original blog post here.
And if you were unable to make the show, don't worry. Nashville Arts has got you covered with YouTube:

In all honesty, this was the best fashion show I've attended in Nashville and I can't wait to see what the Symphony has in store for next year.
Local Honey Loves Our Art Institute Interns!!
I had to highlight a recent blog post by Local Honey owner Shea Steele and her tribute to her five interns- three of which are part of the Fashion & Retail Management program at the Art Institute of Tennessee-Nashville. The last three pictured in the post, Corey, Nina, and Treona, are some of my upper-level students who are gaining valuable experiences working with Tidwell & Perryman (Corey & Nina) and Local Honey / WHITE RABBIT (Treona). And the line Shea wrote: "I feel like a mom," yeah, I pretty much feel like a mother bear every day! Check out the post here.

Girl's Night Out @ The Belcourt / Screening of Bill Cunningham, NY: April 26, 2011
If you're not headed to the Nashville Symphony for the Marchesa fashion show, you MUST attend this event! The Belcourt Theatre is hosting a Girl's Night Out followed by a screening of Bill Cunningham, NY. You'll start off at Sunset Grill at 5:30 then head over to one of the most anticipated fashion movies of the year. Here is a synopsis of the film I received from Haylee Waddey Hall, Marketing & Development Director at the Belcourt Theatre:
“We all get dressed for Bill,” says Vogue editrix Anna Wintour. The “Bill” in question is 80+ New York Times photographer Bill Cunningham. For decades, this Schwinn-riding cultural anthropologist has been obsessively and inventively chronicling fashion trends and high society charity soirées for the Times Style section in his columns “On the Street” and “Evening Hours.” Documenting uptown fixtures (Wintour, Tom Wolfe, Brooke Astor, David Rockefeller—who all appear in the film out of their love for Bill), downtown eccentrics and everyone in between, Cunningham’s enormous body of work is more reliable than any catwalk as an expression of time, place and individual flair. In turn, Bill Cunningham New York is a delicate, funny and often poignant portrait of a dedicated artist whose only wealth is his own humanity and unassuming grace.
“CRITICS’ PICK! Celebratory, humorous and often touching!
Captures one of New York’s most appealing characters!”
–New York magazine
Seriously, watch the movie trailer for Bill Cunningham, NY, and tell me you're not geeking out...
